What Is "Yoyogi no Mai"?
"Yoyogi no Mai" is a kagura dance unique to Meiji Jingu. Its lyrics are taken from a waka poem composed by Emperor Meiji, and it was created in 1968 (Showa 43) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration.

Highlights
The shrine maidens, dressed in splendid costumes, dance with sleeves fluttering in a strikingly beautiful performance that soothes the spirit of the enshrined deities and adds splendor to the Autumn Grand Festival. The lavish costume includes a chrysanthemum-shaped crown (tenkan), a ho robe blue-printed with paulownia, bamboo and phoenix designs, a hanpi vest embroidered with paulownia and phoenix, and a pale warbler-green shitagasane underrobe.
Please take one home as a memento of your autumn visit.
