Nissui "GYONIPO" Free Sample Event
Published Nov 5, 2026
Nissui Corporation is holding a limited-time event from Thursday, November 5 to Sunday, November 8, 2026 (4 days) on the rooftop terrace on the 6th and 7th floors of Tokyu Plaza Harajuku "Harakado." It will give away, in limited quantities, "GYONIPO," a new-style fish snack that looks like french fries but is actually made from fish sausage.
An Initiative for Younger Generations Eating Less Fish
The event is timed to coincide with "Ii Sakana no Hi" (Good Fish Day, November 3–7), designated by Japan's Fisheries Agency, and aims to help younger people enjoy fish casually. Annual per-person consumption of edible fish and seafood in Japan has nearly halved, from 40.2 kg in fiscal 2001 to 21.3 kg in fiscal 2024.
About GYONIPO
"GYONIPO" is a snack made by cutting about one stick of "Osakana no Sausage" (fish sausage) into long, thin strips, coating them lightly in batter, and frying them. It has a "crispy-crunchy texture" that is crisp on the outside and light on the inside, and the more you chew, the more the savory flavor of the fish sausage and a pleasant saltiness spread. Because you can pick it up with one hand, it can be enjoyed as a snack rather than as a fish dish. It was also developed with an emphasis on being easy to make at home.
Interactive Activity and Novelties
In addition to photo spots, the venue features "OSAKANA WALL," an interactive activity where visitors can suggest new ways to eat fish. Post an idea and you will receive an "Osakana no Sausage." Follow Nissui's official Instagram account and you will also receive an original "GYONIPO" drawstring pouch.
